Inspired by Van Leeuwenhoek’s discovery of microbial life, A Closer Look follows Antonie - a scientist and inventor with a disdain for filth living in 17th century Netherlands. When his trials with a home-made microscope unveil a profound discovery, Antonie is forced to confront a discomforting reality.

Antonie is inside the Royal Academy. He walks through a corridor full of 17th century inventions and portraits of renowned scientists.
Curious, he peeks into the door at the end of the corridor, and witnesses a grotesque scene - a dissection of a cadaver!
The anatomy students and the teacher turn their heads in Antonie's direction, as he fixates on the disgusting corpse on the table.
Dramatic ZOOM into Antonie's horrified face before he cowardly runs off, dropping his hat.

Antonie neurotically washes his hand-made microscope in a washing basin.
Still disheartened by what happenned at the Royal Academy, he hesitates to look inside it once more... But his curiosity gets the best of him, and he looks.

SURPRISING CUT TO a colourful mess of countless alien creatures floating around, wiggling, squirming!

Close-up of Antonie's eye, as he realizes... The creatures inhabit every surface around him.
Horrified by the realization, he throws the microscope out of the window.
